Accessibility statement

The short version
- Our goal is WCAG 2.2 Level AA on every page.
- We test on iPhone Safari first.
- If something doesn't work for you, email strachan@uab.edu. We aim to reply within 5 business days.
1. Our goal
We want everyone to be able to use this portfolio and its apps, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, switch controls, zoom, or reduced motion. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA.
This statement covers nonartificialsi.com, www.nonartificialsi.com, and the apps under the same name: AdaptiveSchool, MaQkrs Command Center, the Victorious Herbal Elements store, and CS646 Sanctum.
2. Current status
These sites partly meet WCAG 2.2 AA. Most pages pass our automated checks. Known gaps are listed in section 4.
3. How we test
Date last tested: .
- Automated checks with axe-core 4.14 in WebKit (the engine behind Safari) at iPhone width (430 pixels), and with Lighthouse 13 accessibility checks on a mobile layout.
- Keyboard checks of links, buttons, menus, sign-in, and dialogs.
- Checks with the operating system's Reduce Motion setting turned on.
We re-test before each update. A full manual VoiceOver test on a real iPhone is planned for every site.
4. Known limitations
- Project preview videos on the portfolio are short clips with no audio, so there is nothing to caption. Each project card describes in text what its clip shows.
- The opening film at the top of the portfolio plays on its own, muted (it has no sound), and has a Pause button. With Reduce Motion (or Increase Contrast) on, it shows a still image instead. Where the opening animation follows your scrolling, it moves only as you scroll.
- CS646 Sanctum is a 3D world. The 3D view can be hard to use with a screen reader or switch control. Its study guide is available as regular web pages. If you need anything in another format, email us.
- Victorious Herbal Elements store: some green buttons and labels did not meet color contrast targets in our October 11, 2026 tests. A fix is in progress.
- Older class projects linked from the portfolio (for example, the Legacy Meadows case study) were built before this statement and may not meet every guideline.
5. Supported browsers and assistive technology
- Safari on iPhone and iPad (iOS and iPadOS, current and previous major version), tested first.
- Safari on Mac, and current versions of Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
- VoiceOver on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
6. Report a barrier
If you run into a barrier, please email strachan@uab.edu. It helps to include:
- the page address,
- what you were trying to do and what happened, and
- your device, browser, and any assistive technology you use.
We aim to reply within 5 business days, and we'll tell you what we plan to fix and when. If you need content in another format, ask and we will provide it.
